Many website owners make the big mistake of buying their domains from their webhost. Lots of hosting companies offer free domains with hosting. This is nothing but a lure to get you to sign up with them. The truth is, many times the domain you register with your host DOES NOT belong to you but to your host! If your host forgets to renew your domain or decides to sell it, then, you've lost your domain. Read the fine print and find out if you actually OWN the domain once you buy it. Also, find out if there are any transfer fees that you'll have to pay if you decide to leave your host. I've seen hosts charge up to $100 per domain if you want to move your domain elsewhere! Be smart, avoid all this and use an ICANN accredited registrar to register your domains. That way, you'll be the guaranteed owner. I recommend name.com, but you can research registrars yourself by Googling and by visiting NamePros.com. They have a nice registrar review section.
